The design concept has developed around the theme of transparency - from being able to ‘see-thru' the viewing windows of the Laboratory, Surgery and Treatment room. This concept can also be used to illuminate the hidden ‘connections' between animals and the environment.
The space is a visual extension of the Laboratory, Surgery and Treatment Room and will reflect their aesthetic of being clean, bright, transparent and surgically precise. It utilises the architecture of the space, which offers rich daylight and pragmatic fluorescent lighting.
Displays reflect the precision of surgical materials; microscope slides, glass, whiteness, stainless steel componentry and white hints/ tints of colour.
The shape conjures up stools of the 1800s and the line of the legs is rounded and slightly upturned, an icon of the classic high stool. Charles Ghost is contructed from a single block of transparent polycarbonate which makes it indestructable and allows it to survive anywhere. It is available in three different heights: from the stool for the occassional and informal session to that for the kitchen bench or bar counter. It is just as suited to closed surroundings as to open spaces and it embraces every kind of furnishing and every culture.
